The L.E.A.D. Program (Latina Empowerment, Achievement, and Development Program) was developed in partnership with the Ada Jenkins Latino Development Services, with the purpose of empowering Latina women in the North Mecklenburg area to become the competent candidates to enter the workforce despite gender and racial bias, as well as any language barrier that they may face. Davidson College Spanish Department

The primary mission of the Spanish Department is to teach the language, literatures, and cultures of the Hispanic world. Intermediate, and advanced level courses provide a learning experience conducive to mastering linguistic skills, developing critical thinking and  cultural analysis, to reach a profound understanding of the uniqueness of the context in which Spanish, Latin American, and U. S. Latino literary and cultural expressions emerge, and thrive within a global context. For more information contact Dr. Kyra Kietrys.

Davidson College S.T.R.I.D.E. Program

Students Together Reaching for Individual Development and Education Program, also known as S.T.R.I.D.E, is a peer mentoring program designed to support first year ethnic minority students with their adjustment to Davidson College. A series of designed experiences offer academic, cultural, and social support as well as vital information to aid students in understanding and working effectively within the college community. What makes S.T.R.I.D.E. a unique program is that it tackles the emotional and social issues that come with attending Davidson College as an ethnic minority while building relationships across difference and learning the ins and outs of Davidson College. For more information contact Dean Ernest Jeffries.

Latinos in College

www.latinosincollege.com is the only all-encompassing resource for assisting Latino students and their families in choosing schools, finding funding, and succeeding in college. Created by Mariela Dabbah, award-winning author, spokesperson and expert on education and career issues, in February 2009, the website was re-designed and re-launched in October of 2010. We publicize every corporate, public and private program that benefits Latino students and their families. We conduct live workshops with students explaining LIC and highlight available opportunities. We also promote regular contests where students can win everything from passes to important networking events and conferences to computers. Feel free to check out our student blogs and our forums.
